Could you be the next writer to join #clancranachan? We are currently compiling our list for 2018 and are accepting submissions now.

For the time being, our focus is only on children’s historical fiction* (9-12 age range for our Yesteryear series). Our aim is to champion fresh Scottish voices and authors who currently live and work in Scotland.

We only publish books that excite and inspire us – which means that we’re looking for quirky, bold and vibrant writing!

We’ll work with you and support you throughout the journey to publication and beyond. You will be involved in all decisions concerning your book; your opinion will always count. We promise to care about your book as much as you do.

We’ll promote your book, providing a dedicated service that will cover pre and post launch. Books are only bought when people know about them, and we see marketing, PR and social media as a vital part of a publisher’s, and a writer’s, role today.

Could you be the cream in our cranachan?

To tickle our taste buds please follow the guidance below: In the first instance, email a covering letter with details of your writing CV as well as your social media links.  Also, send us a separate MS Word document attachment that contains a synopsis and the opening chapter(s) of up to 5000 words of your completed, clean manuscript saved as YOUR NAME-TITLE OF MANUSCRIPT. If we want to read more we will get in touch.

Submissions should be emailed to  (We do not accept submissions by post.)

We aim to respond to initial submissions within 6 weeks – but often sooner. (As writers ourselves we know what the waiting is like!)

Please note, that in all cases, before we offer you a contract, we need to meet (no need to travel to us – we’ll chose a place that’s convenient for you). We’ll be entering into an exciting, life-long partnership – we have to like you – and you have to like us – and trust us with your book.

So, what’s the dream? Let us know – we’d love to make it happen. We look forward to reading a flavour of your writing.

*currently, we do not publish children’s fiction or picture books, YA, poetry, short story collections, science fiction, fantasy, erotica or adult fiction.

We are chuffed to be a member of Publishing Scotland.
